GOBBINS VISITOR CENTRE & CLIFF WALK
As work nears completion on the Gobbins Visitors Centre to enable Client fit–out in advance of officially opening works on the Gobbins Cliff Walk progresses. David recently had to make a site visit to a part of the cliff walk. Going down was simple, just need a head for heights but the return journey was a completely different ball game, fit! absolutely not! Setting off at a brisk pace to scale the 60m cliff, attached to a safety tether, up the ladders fixed to the cliff face seemed a simple task, not a bit of it!
Sweater, fleece, climbing harness, lifejacket, gloves and helmet as well as the unseasonably warm September day all led to a lot of sweat, dehydration and rapid exhaustion as he realised that this may not have been a good idea for someone of his more mature years. Completed the climb, eventually, almost expiring on a number of occasions due to the heat. He advised all his colleagues that it was a never to be repeated experience and one he would not have missed.
When his legs recovered from using muscles he forgot he had he now reflects on the whole experience with a sense of achievement and has even managed to bore a few friends over a pint, it also now appears that he managed to scale the cliff in a record time. Thankfully when the cliff walk attraction opens visitors will have an easier access to the path.
David also recently rode the Zip World Velocity in Wales travelling in excess of 100mph on a mile long zip wire through a slate quarry, we have now set up a staff suggestion scheme to come up with ideas for his next adventure, before he gets too old!
There’s no doubt that in our line of work its not all about buildings in towns and cities it gets you to places and provides you with challenges that many would happily pay for and probably never be able to experience.
